Quick Answer: The best zero-turn mower at Home Depot for most homeowners is the Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50 ($3,799). It has a 50-inch 11-gauge fabricated deck and a 23 HP Kawasaki V-twin, and Cub Cadet backs it with a 3-year, no-hour-limit warranty plus lifetime limited coverage on the frame and deck shell. The cheapest gas zero-turn Home Depot sells is the Murray Cruz 42 ($2,899, a Home Depot exclusive). The cheapest V-twin is the Troy-Bilt Mustang Z42 ($3,299). The battery pick is the Home Depot-only Ryobi ZR3 ($3,999), and Deere buyers can get the John Deere Z320R for $3,836.99.
Home Depotâs zero-turn aisle changed for 2026. Cub Cadet, its biggest brand there, replaced the Ultima ZT1 with the redesigned Ultima Series Z in Z1, Z2 and Z3 tiers. Home Depotâs category page still calls the ZT1 50 âone of our best-selling highly rated zero turn mowersâ. Two brands you canât buy at Loweâs or a dealer, Murray and Ryobi, are sold only here. Toro, which added Loweâs as a retail partner in 2024, didnât show Home Depot as the seller of any Toro zero-turn in Googleâs shopping results. In our check, Home Depotâs own prices ran from $2,899 for a Murray Cruz 42 to $8,299 for a Cub Cadet Ultima ZTXS4 60. Below is how the main picks compare, plus the naming traps that make two similar-looking listings very different mowers.
Home Depot zero-turn mowers, compared
| Mower | Best for | Deck | Engine / battery | Warranty | Home Depot price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50 | Best overall | 50" 11-gauge fabricated | 23 HP Kawasaki FR691V | 3 yr, no hour limit + lifetime frame and deck shell | $3,799 |
| Murray Cruz 42 (MYZ4219000) | Cheapest | 42" cut, 13-gauge stamped | 19 HP gross B&S EX1900 540cc single | 3 yr mower, 2 yr engine | $2,899 |
| Troy-Bilt Mustang Z42 (17ARFACSA66) | Cheapest V-twin | 42" 13-gauge stamped | 22 HP Kohler 7000 KT722 747cc | 3 yr + lifetime frame | $3,299 |
| John Deere Z320R | Best for Deere fans | 42" Accel Deep | 21.5 HP Kawasaki FR651V | 3 yr / 200 hr | $3,836.99 |
| Ryobi ZR3 (RY80HPRM04K-ZR3) | Best battery | 42" 12-gauge fabricated | Two 80V 14Ah batteries | 5 yr limited | $3,999 |
| Cub Cadet Ultima Z3 50 | Best for heavy use | 50" reinforced fabricated | 24 HP Kawasaki FR730V | 3 yr, no hour limit + lifetime frame and deck shell | $4,899 |
Prices are Home Depotâs own listings as shown in Googleâs shopping results on October 29, 2026, cross-checked against cubcadet.com, troybilt.com and ryobitools.com the same day. Specs come from each manufacturerâs product page. Prices change often and can vary by store.
1. Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50 â Best Overall
Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50
- 11-gauge fabricated deck with three blades, a Hydro-Gear EZT 2200 transmission, a 3.5-gallon tank and 7 mph forward, per Cub Cadet's spec table.
- 3-year warranty with no hour limit, plus lifetime limited coverage on the frame and the fabricated deck shell. That's stronger than the 3-year or 200-hour coverage on John Deere's Z300 series.
- Home Depot sells it bundled with a 50/54-inch double bagger, listed at $4,378 (down from $4,478) on October 29, 2026.
- Its EZT 2200 is a sealed, "maintenance-free" transmission. If you mow hills or several acres every week, the Z3 50's serviceable Tuff Torq transmission (pick 6) is the better long-term buy.
Watch the tier number. Cub Cadetâs 2026 names look alike, but each tier is a different mower:
| 2026 Ultima model | Deck | Engine | Transmission | Deck shell warranty | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Z1 42 | 42" 13-gauge stamped | 547cc Cub Cadet IntelliPOWER single | EZT 2200 (sealed) | 3 years | $2,999 |
| Z2 42 | 42" 11-gauge fabricated | 21.5 HP Kawasaki FR651V V-twin | EZT 2200 (sealed) | Lifetime limited | $3,599 |
| Z2 50 | 50" 11-gauge fabricated | 23 HP Kawasaki FR691V V-twin | EZT 2200 (sealed) | Lifetime limited | $3,799 |
| Z3 50 | 50" reinforced fabricated | 24 HP Kawasaki FR730V V-twin | Tuff Torq TZ 350 (serviceable) | Lifetime limited | $4,899 |
The Z1 42 and Z2 42 are $600 apart. The extra money gets you a fabricated deck instead of a stamped one, a Kawasaki V-twin instead of a single, and a lifetime deck-shell warranty instead of a 3-year one. Home Depot also carries the Z2 in 46, 54 and 60 inches ($3,699, $4,199 for the 54P and $4,599), and in steering-wheel âSâ versions ($4,899-$5,099). See our steering-wheel zero-turn guide for those. Our Cub Cadet zero-turn mower guide covers the rest of the range.
2. Murray Cruz 42 â Cheapest Zero-Turn at Home Depot
Murray Cruz 42" (model MYZ4219000)
- Murray's own site says its mowers are "available exclusively at The Home Depot". Every murray.com page carries a Briggs & Stratton copyright, and every Murray uses a Briggs engine.
- Dual Hydro-Gear transaxles, up to 7 mph, and Murray rates it at "up to 3 acres on a single tank."
- The warranty is split. The mower carries a 3-year limited warranty, but Briggs & Stratton lists 2 years on the EX1900 engine, and engine claims go through a Briggs & Stratton dealer, not Home Depot. Murray handles deck and delivery problems itself at (855) 693-2582.
- Murray's spec table lists a 44-inch stamped deck with a 42-inch cutting width. The 44-inch figure matters when you measure gates and storage.
The step-up Murray Cruz XD 50 (model MYZ5022000, $3,349) moves to a 22 HP gross, 724cc Briggs & Stratton EXi2200 V-twin and Hydro-Gear ZT-2200 transaxles. Its deck is still stamped 13-gauge steel, 52 inches wide for a 50-inch cut. For $450 more than the Cruz XD, the Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50 gets you a fabricated 11-gauge deck with a lifetime deck-shell warranty.
3. Troy-Bilt Mustang Z42 â Cheapest V-Twin
Troy-Bilt Mustang Z42 (model 17ARFACSA66)
- Kohler twin on a Hydro-Gear EZT-2200, a 3.5-gallon tank and 7 mph forward, per Troy-Bilt's spec page. Troy-Bilt's own list price is $3,229.
- 3-year limited warranty, 3-year deck shell and a lifetime limited frame warranty. No commercial use is covered.
- Home Depot also stocks the Mustang Z46 ($3,432.99, 12-gauge deck), Mustang Z50 ($3,499, 24 HP Kohler KT724) and Mustang Z54 ($3,649, 11-gauge deck).
The Z42 name trap. Home Depot sells a second Troy-Bilt 42-inch (model 17AFFACS066) for $3,048, and its listing title even calls it a â547cc Mustang 42 inchâ. Troy-Bilt itself calls it just the âZ42â, not a Mustang. It has a 547cc single-cylinder engine with no horsepower rating on Troy-Biltâs page, and no rear tow hitch. Troy-Biltâs Z42 page also contradicts itself: the description says the frame has a 5-year warranty, while the spec table says lifetime. Match the model number, not the name. Our Troy-Bilt zero-turn mower guide compares the full Mustang line.
4. John Deere Z320R â Best for Deere Fans
John Deere Z320R 42" (Home Depot model BG21302)
- Despite the Deere badge, the engine is a Kawasaki FR651V V-twin, the same engine family as Cub Cadet's Z2 42. Deere dealers list it at 0-7 mph and rate it for up to 2 acres.
- 3-year or 200-hour bumper-to-bumper warranty, whichever comes first, per Deere dealer listings. On a 2-acre lot mowed weekly, the 200-hour cap can arrive before year three.
- Deere's online dealer storefronts list the Z320R at $3,799 plus $100 freight, so Home Depot's $3,836.99 works out cheaper delivered.
Home Depot also lists the Z320M and the 48-inch Z330R. If you want Deereâs longer 4-year/300-hour coverage, thatâs the Z500 series, which is sold at Loweâs and Deere dealers (see our Loweâs zero-turn mower guide). Our John Deere zero-turn mower guide covers the full Z300 and Z500 range.
5. Ryobi ZR3 â Best Battery Zero-Turn
Ryobi ZR3 80V HP Brushless 42" (model RY80HPRM04K-ZR3)
- Ryobi rates it at "up to 2 acres of runtime" on the two included 14Ah batteries in ECO mode, with four brushless motors it compares to a 25 HP gas engine.
- Sold "Only At The Home Depot" according to Ryobi. It has a 5-year limited warranty on both the mower and its 80V battery, and a 7 mph top speed per Ryobi's spec sheet.
- Front and rear 2-inch hitches rated to 250 lb, plus on-board charging. Options on ryobitools.com: a $499 upgrade kit (suspension seat, armrests, LED headlights), a $699 bagging kit and a $699 extra 14Ah battery.
Donât buy last generation by accident. Ryobi now marks its earlier 80V zero-turns as discontinued, including the 42-inch RYRM8021 and the 54-inch RYRM8034, but some of their Home Depot pages are still live. The ZR3 is the current model. Pro Tool Reviewsâ June 2026 review praised its cut quality and runtime, and its main complaint was a stiff stock seat. For other battery options, including the EGO Z6 at Loweâs, see our best electric zero-turn mower guide.
6. Cub Cadet Ultima Z3 50 â Best for Heavy Use
Cub Cadet Ultima Z3 50
- The Z3's upgrade is the transmission. It uses a Tuff Torq TZ 350 that Cub Cadet lists as "serviceable", while the Z2's EZT 2200 is a sealed, maintenance-free unit. A serviceable transmission lets you change the fluid instead of replacing the whole unit (see our hydraulic fluid guide).
- Same 3-year, no-hour-limit warranty and lifetime frame and deck-shell coverage as the Z2.
- Cub Cadet's own page disagrees with itself on two specs. The spec table says 11-gauge and 7.5 mph, while the feature card says 10-gauge and 7 mph.
If you mow hills or 3 or more acres every week, the extra $1,100 over the Z2 50 buys the serviceable drivetrain. Home Depot also sells Cub Cadetâs commercial-grade Ultima ZTX4 60 ($7,299) and the steering-wheel ZTXS4 60 ($8,299). See our best zero-turn mower for hills guide for slope-specific picks.
Home Depotâs zero-turn lineup by brand
| Brand at Home Depot | Models seen | Price range | Where else it's sold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cub Cadet | Ultima Z1, Z2, Z3, ZS, ZTX, ZTXS | $2,999-$8,299 | Dealers, Tractor Supply, cubcadet.com |
| Troy-Bilt | Z42, Mustang Z42/Z46/Z50/Z54 | $3,048-$3,649 | troybilt.com, Walmart and others |
| Murray | Cruz 42, Cruz XD 50 | $2,899-$3,349 | Home Depot only |
| John Deere | Z320R, Z320M, Z330R | From $3,836.99 (Z320R) | Lowe's, Deere dealers |
| Ryobi | ZR3 80V | $3,999 | Home Depot only |
Cub Cadet and Troy-Bilt are both Stanley Black & Decker brands since it bought MTD in 2021, which is why the Z1 42 and the Troy-Bilt Z42 share a 547cc single-cylinder platform at nearly the same price. Swisherâs Response Gen2 line is also listed on homedepot.com (see our Swisher zero-turn mower guide).
What to know before buying a zero-turn at Home Depot
- Check the return window before delivery. Home Depotâs return policy lists gas-powered mowers among the exceptions to its standard 90-day window, and gas-powered products canât be returned by mail. Third-party summaries put the gas-equipment window at 30 days, with battery mowers like the ZR3 on the standard 90 days. Check your receipt.
- Measure your gate. A Home Depot Q&A answer puts the Cub Cadet Z2 46 at 57 inches wide with the discharge chute folded up, 11 inches more than its deck size. Murrayâs â42-inchâ Cruz has a 44-inch deck. Deck size is not overall width.
- Ignore too-cheap results in Google Shopping. On October 29, 2026, Googleâs shopping panel for âhome depot zero turn mowerâ showed unfamiliar storefronts listing a Cub Cadet Ultima 42 at $1,536.38, a John Deere Z345M at $1,280, a Toro TimeCutter MAX Havoc 54 at $1,464.13 and a âCub Cadet Ultima ZT1 23HPâ at $472.50. Home Depotâs own cheapest zero-turn is $2,899. A new zero-turn at half price or less from a seller youâve never heard of is almost certainly not real.
- Old reviews, new names. Home Depotâs Z2 review pages still show summaries that mention the ZT1 50. Thatâs useful history, but check that the specs in a review match the 2026 model youâre buying.
- Know what Home Depot doesnât carry. Toroâs own retail-partner list names Loweâs, Tractor Supply and Ace Hardware, not Home Depot, and dealer-only brands like Scag, Ferris, Exmark and Grasshopper arenât at Home Depot. Tractor Supply sells Toro, Husqvarna and Bad Boy zero-turns alongside the same Cub Cadet Ultima Z line (see our Tractor Supply zero-turn mower guide). For a route or 5+ acres, see our best commercial zero-turn mower guide.
- Time it right. Big-box markdowns cluster around spring holidays and end-of-season clearance. See our zero-turn mower deals guide for what a real discount looks like, and our zero-turn financing guide before you open a store card.
The bottom line
For most yards, the Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 50 is the best zero-turn at Home Depot: a fabricated 11-gauge deck, a Kawasaki V-twin and no hour cap on a warranty that covers the deck shell for life, all for $3,799. The Murray Cruz 42 is the cheapest way into a zero-turn at $2,899. The Troy-Bilt Mustang Z42 is the cheapest V-twin. The John Deere Z320R is Home Depotâs Deere option, the Ryobi ZR3 is the battery pick for up to 2 acres, and the Ultima Z3 50 adds a serviceable transmission for heavy use. Whichever you choose, confirm the model number and return window before delivery. To compare these against dealer brands, see our full zero-turn mower guide.
